OUR STORY
The Ontario Business Users Group (OBUG) emerged organically from informal conversations among Ontario university professionals navigating Ellucian systems. What began as monthly coffee chats, launched at the University of Guelph, evolved into a safe space for sharing challenges, brainstorming solutions, and discussing unique provincial requirements.
These discussions highlighted common struggles, especially the challenge of balancing ministry requirements with operational realities under the constraints of Ellucian’s software.
Momentum grew during the November 2024 CEUG Conference, where Ontario-based Ellucian users and staff recognized the value of structured collaboration and the importance of having a unified voice to communicate Ontario-specific needs and ministry-driven requirements to Ellucian.
Following the conference, a proposal was drafted for an Ontario-focused group under the CEUG umbrella, aiming to maintain national cohesion while addressing local issues.

By June 2025, CEUG approved OBUG as an integrated yet distinct group dedicated to shared advocacy, knowledge exchange, and influencing Ellucian’s development for Canadian and provincial priorities.
In July 2025, OBUG launched a draft website to outline its purpose, encourage new members, and serve as a document repository to preserve the group’s knowledge and operations for the future.
